Creating Intention With a New Moon Circle

Living with ADHD feels like a constant game of whack-a-mole. I can easily get caught up in a cycle of reacting, which ultimately ends up very unsatisfying. Something that I have learned about myself is that taking the time to create intention for my life is incredibly important. I have to take the time and slow down to think about what my schedule looks like, whether I could actually handle living in the schedule I’ve created for myself. I have to create time to think about the things that I want to experience in my life, whether it is vacation or time with loved ones. Even the act of journaling helps me tune in to the things that are percolating under the surface and can guide intentional action.

But creating intention isn't just important for folks with ADHD. If we are going to make conscious choices in our lives, we must take the time to set a course for direction.
One way that I have found a lot of joy in this process is through gathering with other women for a new moon circle. A 28-day cycle is the natural rhythm to build and release our creative energy. It feels intuitive to tap into the flow of the moon’s cycle. The new moon is beginning the point of the cycle, where the energy is building and it is an ideal time to plant the seeds for the garden we are cultivating in our lives.
In these ceremonies we name what we are grateful for from the previous cycle and celebrate our wins. We spend time reflecting on the areas of dissonance in our lives and begin the process of letting go of the things that are no longer serving us. We create intention around and welcome in the things we desire in our lives.
These ceremonies are not magic. Just because we create an intention does not mean that we will see it through to its end. But when we speak out loud the things that are important to us and create ritual around it, we teach our subconscious mind what is important and it helps us to make conscious action toward our goals. It helps focus our energy on what really matters and removes the clutter that’s so easily gathers in a busy life. Creating intention begins a process of growth. Because when we set goals, we have to become the person who can make them a reality.

If the idea of a new moon gathering appeals to you and you would like to do it in-person, I encourage you to gather folks close to you that are like-minded. There is a lot of flexibility in the gathering. You can make it as "woo" as you and your group feel comfortable. I think the important part is creating space for sharing and connecting, expressing gratitude/celebrating, releasing, and inviting in. I like to create rituals of some sort for each aspect: gratitude, releasing, and intention. The possibilities are unlimited!
Sometimes it is hard to find people who might really value these types of gatherings in our social circles. Sometimes we just value the simplicity or, perhaps, anonymity of an online group. Sometimes we want to meet new people. Starting in September, I will be hosting monthly online new moon gatherings for the community.
If you are interested in creating more space for intention in your life, I invite you to join us. The first new moon gathering will be September 8th. You can find more details here.
