How We Work
In order for you to enter deep therapeutic work, you need to feel safe in the therapy space. This make take some time as we get t o know each other and begin to unpack your problem. No matter who you are or what you're experience has been, we want you to feel safe and we strive to create a warm, non-judgmental environment for clients to explore their emotional and mental health. We are inclusive, affirming, and committed to cultural humility.

Therapy is interactive. Beyond listening, the therapist will have questions, comments, and observations that may help dig deeper, to understand the problem more fully. It is important that we understand who you are, how you think, and what is going on under the surface so we can deal with the root of your challenges.

We are a trauma-focused practice, which means that we view the symptoms you're experiencing as a result of painful experiences you've endured, even the seemingly minor childhood dynamics that may have just felt like family life. Early childhood experiences are especially important as they create foundational patterns of interacting with the world and others, sometimes at the expense of authentic selfhood.
The mind is powerfully adaptive and goes to great lengths to protect you from pain and keep you as functional as possible, but these coping strategies can become problematic. The painful emotions lurk outside of awareness, but show up through any number of dysfunctional behaviors or mental health conditions. We will explore how the beliefs, patterns, and coping strategies you've developed might contribute to your current problems and life dissatisfaction.

Creating awareness around these patterns will allow you to do the necessary emotional healing and enable you to disentangle from unhelpful behaviors so that you can make more intentional and authentic choices. This isn't easy work and it isn't a quick fix. Often people tend to feel worse before they feel better. Sometimes clients may benefit from more intensive help to overcome difficult or traumatic experiences. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Ketamine Assisted Therapy are powerful tools to facilitate healing and closure to those wounds. This type of healing is a journey and takes time, but brings the potential to experience lasting freedom and a greater sense of integrity, authenticity, and joy.
